Five New Volvos Boast 'IHHS 2012 TOP SAFETY PICK' Title

Volvo has built its reputation on extreme safety. The legacy continues with five new Volvo models featured on the "IIHS 2012 TOP SAFETY PICK" list: the Volvo S80, Volvo S60, Volvo C30, Volvo XC60, and Volvo XC90. That represents over half of all the models in the entire Volvo lineup!

Each of these highly-esteemed Volvo models earned "Good" ratings in all four of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's four crash tests: front offset, side impact, roof strength and rear-crash protection. Among a crowd of perfectionist Volvo drivers, "Good" might not sound all that great. However, Smothers European Volvo…

And, already Volvo is pondering the window they'll crack as the plant's doors close.

Volvo's Electric Car Plans

Within a year, the Volvo C30 will be going all electric. Drivers will be able to test drive the latest in alternative energy vehicle production.

But C30 is only the tip of Volvo's electric iceberg. Volvo has joined with Siemens AG (Europe's largest engineering company) to develop an entire line of electric vehicles.

"Cooperation with Volvo is an important milestone in the development of top-quality components and systems for electric cars subsequently intended for series production," said Siegfried Russwurm, head of Siemens Industry Sector.1

Together with Volvo, the company will develop electric motors along with charging systems on as many as 200 Volvo electric cars under real-life conditions, following track test studies.

"We are moving ahead quickly in this area," Volvo Chief Executive Officer Stefan Jacoby said in the carmaker's statement. "Our aim is to be first with the latest technology within electrification. The partnership reinforces our aim to pursue the fast-growing market for electric cars."2

The best way to find out more on new Volvo technology in their cars is by contacting Smothers European Volvo in Santa Rosa, CA.

Maybe you've previously read about the Volvo Ocean Race scheduled to take place between late October 2011 and July 2012. Contrary to what you might expect given Volvo is a Swedish automaker, it has nothing to do with cars. Rather, it's the world's ultimate offshore sailing competition, dating back to 1973 when it was known as the Whitbread Round the World Race. This year the Volvo Ocean Race will start in Alicante, Spain. 39,000 miles later, it will commence in Galway Ireland.

Unlike previous years, however, there have been some complications with the route. Namely, Volvo…
