Volvo is Tangled with the XC60 plug-in hybrid Cord Storage

There are beginning to be a lot more hybrid cars
available and now even plug in hybrids. With so many auto manufacturers
producing these gas sipping machines it comes down to features and usability
that sets each apart. One of the features with plug in hybrids in the fact that
well, you can plug it in. Storing the charging cord doesn't seem like a great
feature but until you have to use it every day, the smallest innovation makes
the biggest impact. Volvo is currently developing a plug in version of their
XC60 and they are putting a lot of thought into the charging cord itself.
The XC60 is using a standard electric cord with one
end that plugs into the wall and the other which is modified to fit into the
car. You will be able to plug the car into the wall the same way you would a
coffee maker or lamp. This will make charging your hybrid as easy as plugging
in a lamp!
One area that Volvo is still working on is the storage of the cord. The thought of a retractable cord seems like the perfect solution but the engineers at Volvo are worried about the cord getting tangled or even breaking inside the vehicle. Volvo is continuing to find a solution to their cord storage dilemma and until they do the Volvo XC60 plug-in hybrid will only be a concept.
