Volvo Ocean Race Re-Routed Due To Pirate Threat

Maybe you've previously read about the Volvo Ocean Race scheduled to take place between late October 2011 and July 2012. Contrary to what you might expect given Volvo is a Swedish automaker, it has nothing to do with cars. Rather, it's the world's ultimate offshore sailing competition, dating back to 1973 when it was known as the Whitbread Round the World Race. This year the Volvo Ocean Race will start in Alicante, Spain. 39,000 miles later, it will commence in Galway Ireland.

Proof Volvo Crash-Avoidance System, "City Safe", Works

Volvo is once again raising the benchmark on driver-safety technology with its new "City Safe" collision avoidance system. Keeping statistics that roughly 75 percent of automobile collisions occur at below 20 miles per hour top of mind, Volvo designed the system, with an optical radar system to monitor traffic up to six meters ahead. Should "City Safe" register that the car ahead dramatically slows or suddenly stops, it will automatically pre-charge the brakes. In the case of a more imminent accident, it will fully activate the brakes.
